Addis Shelley Britt 98 of Glasgow died Saturday December 17, 2005 at the NHC Health Care Facility in Glasgow. He was born in Temple Hill, KY the son of Dr. William T. Britt and Dora Bertram Britt. He was a graduate of Glasgow High School and while in High School started his career with Kentucky Utilities Co. He was manager of the district offices in Lancaster, Danville and Glasgow and retired as safety director in 1973. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Glasgow Lion's Club, a member of Allen Lodge #24 F&AM where he was Past Master and was a life member since June 1929. He was a member of the Glasgow Rotary Club and named a Paul Harris Fellow, a member since 1929 and former president of the Travelers Protective Assn., Past Pres. of the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and the Glasgow Musicale. Mr. Britt was a member of the local club called the Silver Foxes and he was noted for his poems about local people. He was a former Boy Scout and later served as a Boy Scout Leader. In May of 1961 he won the top area award for public speaking at the Spring Convention of the Dale Carnegie competition and was the first president of the Dale Carnegie Alumni Assn. at Glasgow. He is survied by a sister Nina Ruth Edwards of Naples, FL, three nieces Helen Sue Shafer of Richmond, IN, Susan Joy (Larry) Smellie of Naples, FL and Linda (David) Polzin of Perrysburg, IN and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elizabeth Harvey Britt, two sisters Lennie Britt and Ena Grace Hendricks and three infant brothers. Funeral services will be 11:00am Monday December 19th at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:30pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home. A masonic service will be held at 7:00pm on Sunday at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may be made to the First United Methodist Church, South Central Cultural Center or your favorite organization.
