Amos A. Gary, 97, of Caneyville, passed away Tuesday, August 29th, 2017 at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center. He was born on Monday, September 15th, 1919 in Grancer, KY the son of the late Anderson Blain and Martha (Lacefield) Gary. Amos was a 50 year member of Chapel Union Baptist Church. He was a retired farmer and also served in the United States Army during WWII where he received a Purple Heart and numerous other medals. Amos is survived by his wife of more than 40 years, Eulma (Taylor) Gary; one son, Presto Gary (Jo Ann) of Caneyville; one daughter, Mary Lane Fishburn of Louisville; one step-son, James E. Gary (Florence) of Duff; five grandchildren, Deanna Gary, Donita Ashley (Brent), Daniel Gary, Denisa Edens and David Gary (Brittany); three step-granddaughters, Suzanne Sweet (Johnny), Wendy Pierce (James) and Angela Gary; ten great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren . Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret (Embry) Gary; one foster son, Geoffrey Geary; four brothers, Johnny, Lonnie, Finis and Ezra; four sisters, Beulah Embry, Janie Cockrel, Gertrude Brooks and Lois Hayes and one infant sister, Dorothy Bryant. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 2nd at 2:00 pm at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville. Bro Mickey Coates will be officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home Friday after 11:00 am and Saturday from 9:00 am until time of service.
