Ann Gandy Barrickman, 90, of Atlanta, Georgia and former long-time resident of Glasgow, died Thursday, January 6, 2011, in Atlanta after a short illness. She was the wife of the late Uhel O. Barrickman. She was born March 5, 1920 in Richmond, Indiana, the daughter of the late Arthur Clinton Gandy and Nancy Elizabeth Reed Gandy. The family soon moved to Nicholasville, Kentucky and later to Louisville. She graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1942 with a degree in library science and worked briefly as a school librarian in Catlettsburg, Kentucky prior to her marriage to Uhel Barrickman in 1943 while he served in the U.S. Army. She lived with her parents in Louisville while her husband was stationed in France and Germany during World War II. She and her husband moved to Glasgow in 1948 when he joined the law firm of the late John Richardson. Thereafter she was a homemaker and beloved mother of four children. She was later employed for many years by the Glasgow school district as librarian at the Glasgow Middle School. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church for many years, former member of the Glasgow Garden Club, and worked with various charitable organizations. In addition to her family, her interests included bridge, baking, and needlework. Her kind heart, strength, and integrity were an inspiration to her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years and a sister, Betty Schultz. She is survived by three sons, John Barrickman, Atlanta, Georgia, Don Barrickman (Robyn), Akron, Ohio, and Bruce Barrickman (Janet), Atlanta, Georgia; one daughter, Nancy Yelton, Lexington, Kentucky; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a brother, Joe Gandy, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church, 200 East Washington Street, Glasgow, with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be at the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, January 15th from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service. Expressions of sympathy are suggested to the charity of your choice.
