Anthony Darren Combs

August 7, 1961 — October 11, 2019

Anthony "Darren" Combs, 58, of Smiths Grove passed away on October 11, 2019. Formerly of Austin and Shelby County, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Bradyn, a brother, Aaron Combs, and his parents, Isachar and Lois Noble Combs. He leaves behind Dianna, his wife, partner, and best friend, after 39+ years of marriage and beautiful adventure, and his children and grandchildren: daughter Angela Gropler (Sam) of Australia, daughter Tori Grider (Daniel) of Glasgow, son-in-law Robert Sutton of Maryland, and grandchildren Mya, Connor, and Kepler. He also leaves behind his sisters, Brenda Radcliff of Shelbyville, Sharon McGruder of Shelbyville, Gail Brewer of Austin, and Janet; a brother, Alan Combs, of Spencerville, IN; father- and mother-in-law Harvey and Jo Brewer of Austin; several special nieces and nephews; and special friends Pat, Don, Mark, Marty, Bill, and Susie. Born August 7, 1961, Darren loved nature and enjoyed being outdoors, working with nature's treasures, camping with family and friends, and fishing. He could usually be found with woodworking and mechanical projects during his down time, and he never limited himself in fixing or figuring out how to fix something. He was funny, loving, strong, and wise, with enough of his own quirks to make him an interesting conversationalist and a quick enough wit to make him quite the jokester. Friends have often mentioned that no matter how strange or bad your day had been, Darren Combs would say, "I've seen worse," then proceed to tell you the funniest story you'd ever heard. He could make a hard day better that way, but you knew his tall tales had a core of truth, because he was rooted in his values and as a teacher and mentor, he modeled how to be a good person in everything he did. Darren was a family man, known for his honesty and integrity, and he was dedicated, hard-working, and devoted to his family in all things. He loved his pups, both past and present, and everyone who knew him looked up to him as a hero. He was our Superman. The days ahead without him will be difficult, but the precious memories he leaves behind will still add a sparkle and a smile to our days as we await the time when we are reunited once again. There will be visitation Tuesday, October 15th from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM EDT at Shannon Funeral Home in Shelbyville, KY and Wednesday, October 16th from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM CDT at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home in Glasgow, KY followed by cremation. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the funeral home to assist the family with final expenses.
