Avon L. Black 89 of Louisville, KY and formerly of Glasgow died Friday, August 9, 2013 in Louisville, KY. Born in Newroe, KY he was the son of the late Floyd & Hassie Walker Black and husband of the late Velma Mae Mitchell Black. Mr. Black was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Glasgow where he formerly served as a Sunday School Teacher. He was also a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Army, a former Boy Scout Leader and a graduate of the University of Tennessee. Survivors include 2 sons David Black & wife Ann of Louisville and Roger Black & wife Julie of Punta Gorda, FL; 5 grandchildren Allison Black, Nathan Black, Michael Black, Thomas Black and Jennifer Black and a brother Ernest Black & wife Lavelle of Westmoreland, TN. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a son Rodney Black. Funeral services will be 10:00am Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery, Military Honors will be provided by D.A.V. Chapter #20 of Glasgow. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home.
