Beatrice “Charlene” Shives, age 76, of Glasgow, departed this life on Thursday, December 5, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones at her home. She was a Barren County native, born on January 29, 1948, to the late Russell Bragg and the late Blanche (Harper) Bragg. She was married to her best friend and soulmate, Garnett Shives for 60 years. Charlene worked at Boots and Jeans in Edmonton as a store manager, she was also manager at Glasgow McDonalds for many years.
Charlene was known for her smile, home cooking, and candy making at Christmas. She loved people and to know her was to love her. If she could have hugged the whole world she would have. Her upbringing and spiritual foundation shaped the way she treated others with love and respect. She cherished her relationship with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, showing immense pride and devotion in their lives.
She leaves behind to honor her memory, her husband, Garnett Shives; sons, James David “JD” (Missy), Jimmy Ray (Tonya), and Charles Daniel (Karen); grandchildren, Justin (Whitney), Aaron, Amber (Andrew), Mason (lady Mason), Matthew (Shelby), Amy Matthews (Alex), and Ryan Curry; great-grandchildren, Sophia Matthews, Makinlee Matthews, Campbell Shives, Juniper Shives, Bella Sherfey, and baby James Wood (April 2025); brother Randall Bragg; sister, Vola Smith; two sisters in law, Elaine and Gloria Bragg; along with several nieces and nephews; very special friends, Kenny and Vickie Massey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph, Raymond, and “Bean: Bragg; sister-in-law, Wilma Bragg; and brothers-in-law, Jimmy Read, and Charlie Smith.
Charlene’s family would like to express their sincerest appreciation for the outstanding care that she received during her final days for Dr. Phillip Bale and staff (for 40 years of care), Dr. Heltsley and staff and Hospice of Southern Kentucky and staff of Bowling Green, Kentucky.
The funeral service for Mrs. Shives will be held at 1:00 PM, on Sunday, December 8th, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Saturday, and Sunday morning until time for the service at the funeral home.
