It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Sue Botts Ferrell announce her sudden passing on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at TJ Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, Kentucky at the age of 81. She was born on July 6, 1943, in Albany, Oregon, to the late Norris and Opal Botts. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church.
Betty Sue dedicated her career to serving her community, finding fulfillment in various roles that included her time with Sorenson, E. B. Terry Elementary School as a secretary, and Taylor, Polson, and Co. Her work ethic and commitment to those she served reflected her caring spirit and desire to make a positive impact.
Those who knew Betty Sue were deeply touched by her vibrant personality. She had a remarkable ability to light up any room with her contagious smile. Family meant everything to her, and her love for them was boundless—a sentiment that defined her life and values. Betty Sue found joy in simple pleasures, whether it was relishing time spent at the beach, enjoying the gentle sway of her back porch swing, or passionately cheering for her favorite college basketball teams. Her grandchildren were the center of her universe, and she often expressed that they were the gravity that made her world go round.
Betty and her beloved husband, Jimmy Ferrell, shared a beautiful life together, marked by 50 wonderful years of marriage. Their love story was one of deep devotion, laughter, and unwavering companionship — a true testament to the power of love that stands the test of time. Their home was more than just four walls; it was the heart of the family. A place where everyone gathered — for holiday dinners, Sunday afternoons, or simply to be close. It was filled with warmth, kindness, and the kind of love that made everyone feel like they belonged. Whether it was the smell of something cooking in the kitchen, the sound of shared stories and laughter, or the comfort of their presence, being in their home meant feeling at peace. Betty and Jimmy’s love touched the lives of so many — not just through their words, but through their example. They taught us about patience, generosity, and the quiet strength that comes from a life lived side by side.
Betty Sue is survived by her beloved daughter, Leigh Anne Phelps (Bobby); her son, Bo Ferrell (special friend Kathy Hall); grandchildren, Taylor Bunnell (Kyle), Noah Anderson (Gemma), Maggie Phelps, Jackson Ferrell, and Ellie Ferrell; as well as her great-grandchildren, Harry Bunnell and Patrick Bunnell. She is also survived by her brother, Jerry A. Botts (Debbie), sister-in-law Alice Glass (Herman), and several nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Ferrell, as well as her parents, Norris and Opal Botts, and several other close relatives.
