Catherine 'Katy' Calhoun, 87, passed away October 29, 2009 in Owensboro, KY. She was born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1922, in Providence, Rhode Island, to the late Edwin and Catherine Casey. She had been employed by JJ Newberrys and Woolco as the fabrics department manager. She was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church where she sang in the choir for many years, was active in many activities until recent years, including the Fleet Reserve Association, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Daviess County Republican Women's Organization, and also volunteered at Owensboro Medical Health System. In addition to these activities, she also had been active on the senior citizens bowling league, line dancing and chorus. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and writing letters to the editor, for which she was well known. Until a year ago she was enjoying her aquacize group at the YMCA. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Calhoun, her son, Mike Calhoun and her daughter, Ellen Calhoun, and two brothers, Edwin Casey and Jim Casey. She is survived by two sons, Robert Calhoun and wife Rosemary of Lexington, KY, Ed Calhoun and wife Linda of Owensboro; three daughters, Corrinne 'Cookie' Calhoun of Owensboro, Phyllis Whitaker and husband Terry of Owensboro, Claudia Donehue and husband Kevin of Columbus, OH, a son-in-law, Joseph Morris of Hampstead, NC; daughter-in-law, Juanita Calhoun of Corpus Christi, TX; Grandchildren, Rob Calhoun, Danny Calhoun, Melanie Wallace and her husband Scott, Jennifer Nacey and husband Aaron, Patrick Calhoun, Stephen Morris, Nathan, Robert, Brian, Michael & Lauren Donehue, Denise Ogrodnik and Ernest C. Saenz; and great-grandchildren, Kaylee Nacey and Colton Wallace. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am Monday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with Father John Meredith officiating. Visitation is from 3:00 to 8:00 pm Sunday with prayers being said at 7:00 pm, and 9:00 to 10:00 am Monday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to The Opportunity Center Workshop, 731 Jackson Street, Owensboro, KY 42303. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
