Cecil M. Buckingham 85 of Alvaton, KY died Tuesday September 16, 2008 at the Hospice Center in Bowling Green. He was born in Barren County November 1, 1922 the son of the late Drewey and Maude Stinnett Buckingham. His wife of 57 years was the late Mildred Edmunds Buckingham. In addition to his parents and wife, his brother, Veachel (Wanda) Buckingham preceded him in death. Mr. Buckingham served 33 months in World War II from 1943 through 1945 with the 11th Air Force stationed at Elmdorf Field near Anchorage, Alaska. He was employed by ASCS United States Department of Agriculture as member of the Barren County ASC Committee, did investigation work; and worked as a program assistant for the production adjustment section of the state office and also served as a District Director for ASCS. He was selected as a program specialist for the Production Adjustment section of State ASCS office with regard to administration of most all phases of the Burley, Dark Air and Dark Fire Cured Tobacco programs with additional responsibilities for Feed Grain Programs, Farm Storage and Price Support Loan programs. Mr. Buckingham was appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture as acting State ASC Committee and acting State Executive Director in charge of KY ASCS operations during the transition period from the Carter administration to the Reagan administration. He gave over 20 years of dedicated service to operations of ASCS Farm programs for the Kentucky farmers. He is survived by a son David (Cathy) Buckingham of Lexington, KY and a daughter Brenda Buckingham of Franklin, KY; five granddaughters, Lisa (Todd) Rodgers, Angela (Shane) Simmons, Pamela (Steven) Turney, Amy (Dan) Keeler, and Brandy (Dean) Bridges; 7 great grandchildren, Alexander Rodgers, Morgan Keeler, Katy, Clay and Cody Bridges, Georgia Ann and Luke Simmons; two sisters in law Margaret and Naomi Edmunds of Glasgow; two brothers in law Thomas P. Edmunds of Glasgow and Erbie C. Garrett of Hodgenville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Saturday September 20, 2008 at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 11:00am until 9:00pm Friday and after 8:00am Saturday at the funeral home.
