Cecil B. Williams 89 of Bowling Green died Wednesday December 17, 2008 at the Medical Center at Bowling Green. He was born October 26, 1919 in Clay County Tennessee the son of the late John Alex and the late Lela Pearl Long Williams. He was drafted into the Army at the tender age of 22 and sent to Camp Walters, Texas where he trained to be a combat infantryman. Just five days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Cecil arrived in the South Pacific and fought the Japanese on various Islands. Cecil was then sent to Saipan for 2 months where he was a nose gunner on a B29 aircraft for the air assault on Japan. After 45 days of furlough, he was reassigned to Okinawa where he suffered life-threatening injuries. He eventually recovered and was released from active duty and honorably discharged on September 29, 1945. As a soldier in the United States Army, Cecil was awarded two Purple Hearts and other medals. Cecil returned home to become a store manager for Houchen's Industries and remained there for 25 years, and also spent 19 years with the Department of Agriculture. Survivors include his wife Linda Neil Williams of Bowling Green; 2 step daughters Ellona Moss (Richard) of TN and PFC. LeMegan Shelton currently serving in Iraq;1 step son Kennon Shelton of Albany, KY; 6 step grandchildren; 2 sisters Mary Fisher of Bowling Green, KY and Billie Stephens of Alvaton, Ky; 1 brother Jerome Williams of Lexington, KY. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife Laura Bell Williams; 1 sister Norma Jones and 1 brother Lecil Williams. Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday December 20, 2008 at the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the D.A.V. Chapter 20. Visitation will be after 5:00pm until 8:00pm Friday at the funeral home.
