Dr. Clarence Garland Bowman 88 of Glasgow died Wednesday February 23, 2005 at his home after an extended illness. He was born in Summer Shade, KY the son of the late Dr. Samuel Medford Bowman and Mrs. Victoria Word Bowman. He followed in the footsteps of his father and eldest brother in the medical profession. He attended Western KY University and the University of Louisville Dental School and graduated in 1942. After four years in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII, European Theatre of Operation, he began the practice of dentistry serving the people of this area for over 50 years. He was a proud and great believer in the importance of his profession and hoped that he would be long remembered for his outstanding qualities as a gentleman, Christian, dentist and citizen with compassion for his fellow man. He was endeared to those who were privileged to know him and serve with him. He is survived by his wife Janice McWherter Bowman; a son Dr. R.K. Bowman and wife Alexis Demunbrun Bowman of Glsagow; a daughter Sondra Bowman Dickinson and husband Benny of Glasgow; a daughter in law Susan Hunter Bowman of Festus, Missouri; 7 grandchildren Dawn Dickinson Reynolds, Sam Day Dickinson, Jay Bowman, Amy Bowman, Emily Bowman, Alex Bowman and Anna Dickinson; 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Dr. Larry Bowman and two brothers and their wives Dr. Medford Cecil Bowman and wife Lois and Clyde Kenton Bowman and wife Betty. Funeral services for Dr. Bowman will be 2:00pm Sunday February 27, 2005 at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 5pm untril 8pm and on Sunday from 10am until time for services. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to: Leukemia/Lymphoma Society of America, Gateway Chapter, No. 77 Westport Plaza, Suite 101, St. Louis, MO 63146 or to the Glasgow Baptist Church in Glasgow, Kentucky.
