Cyrus Thomerson Smith 79 of Glasgow died Thursday Sept. 30, 2004 at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. He was born in Barren County the son of the late Byron and Bera Thomerson Smith. Following his service with the U. S. Marines in WWII and his education at Western Ky. University, he began his professional career as a deputy at the Barren County Court Clerk's office. He worked most of his professional life for the KY Cabinet for Human Resources, initially with Employment Services then retired as a social worker with the Bureau for Social Services. He spent his evenings and weekends caring for the family farms. He was a long time active member of the Dry Fork Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Evelyn Cherry Smith; 3 daughters Cherry Kay Smith of Louisville, Leisa Hutchison and husband David of Bowling Green and Karen Witty and husband James of Glasgow; 5 grandsons Logan, Hunter, Alex and Andrew Witty and Ben Hutchison; 1 sister Virginia Simmons of Glasgow; 1 brother Chester Reed Smith of Etoile and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also survived by 4 special caregivers, Sue Milton, Jene Bennett, Anita Houchens and Betty Pruitt. Funeral services will be 2pm Sunday October 3, 2004 at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 1pm until 8pm at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to either the American Heart Assn. or the T. J. Samson Hospice Program.
