Donald Furlong, 79, passed away unexpectedly at his home Friday, November 22, 2024. Donald was born in Glasgow, Kentucky on October 29, 1945, to the late Leslie Furlong and late Millie Hawkins. He grew up in the Beckton Community and graduated from Park City High School in 1964.

Donald was drafted into service in 1966 and was assigned into the Marine Corps. After completing basic training, he was sent to the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1967. He served as a Combat Engineer and was station in Dong Ha, on the DMZ.

Donald was a hardworking man. He worked at various factories, including Sorenson and Eaton (later Dana). He chose to work third shift so he could also work on the farm during the day, raising tobacco and cows. He and his wife, Sue, were known as the fastest tobacco-cutting pair around!

Donald always enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, camping, hunting for dry land fish and ginseng, and pitching horseshoes. In more recent years, he loved to sit in his basement and drink a few beers with his buddies who would stop by and visit. He also enjoyed meeting up with more friends a couple of nights a week at the Mexican restaurants.

He is survived by two daughters, Jody Richardson (Chad) and Katy Furlong (Nate Ferguson); two grandchildren, Dylan Wells and Melanie Richardson; one brother, Billy Furlong; two sisters, Bessie Lee Gibbons and Barbara Wooten (Thurman); sister-in-law, Peggy Furlong; and numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, and close friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his recently deceased wife of 52 years, Sue Furlong (formerly Jean Kinslow); three brothers, Leroy Furlong, Charles Amos Furlong, and James “Poke” Furlong; four sisters, Alene Furlong, Jewell Furlong, Grace Smith, and Annie Settle; three brothers-in-law, Marvin Smith, Arthur Gibbons, and Bill Settle; two sisters-in-law, Ann Furlong and Pernie Furlong; and some niece, nephews, and close friends.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Furlong will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 30, 2024, at A.F. Crow and Son Funeral Home with burial in the Old Zion Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Friday, November 29, 2024, until 8:00 PM and Saturday morning until time for the service at the funeral home.
