Dumas Eugene Short

March 31, 1933 — September 13, 2021

Dumas Eugene "Gene" Short, age 88 of Louisville returned to his Heavenly Father on September 13, 2021. He was born in Austin, KY to the late Ezra Dumas and Rosa Short. He was in the U.S Army and went to Germany where he served in the unit they called "Hell on Wheels." He was retired from Ford Motor Co in 1990 after 38 years. He loved to ride his Harley. He was a member of American Legion Post 157, also the Crescent Hill Lodge #860 and the VFW. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delma Short; sisters, Lorene Short, Barbara Coop, Linda Allen, and Susie Blanton; and brothers, Carlene and Charles Short. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, James Short (Kim) and Deborah Schreiner (Jimmie); grandchildren, Allen Reece and Leah Short; great-grandchildren, Dayton, Jordan, Julius, and Adrian Reece; great-great-grandson, Kingsley; brothers, David Short (Kay), Fred Short (Karen) and Kenneth Short; sister, Brenda Short; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends; and also his girlfriend, Bonnie Cook. The Funeral Service will be conducted at 2pm CST Saturday, September 25, 2021 at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home 201 E. Washington St. Glasgow, KY 42141 with interment at Pleasant Home Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by DAV Chapter #20. Visitation will begin at 10am CST at the funeral home. Friends may pay their respects on Friday, September 24, 2021 from 12-8pm EST at Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy and Brooks Rd) Shepherdsville, KY 40165. A. F.
