Edward Dale Mitchell, a devoted family man, dedicated public servant, and beloved friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, September 6, 2024, at the age of 76. Known for his unwavering love for his family, his commitment to his country, and his generous heart, Dale touched the lives of many with his kindness and selflessness.
Dale was born on July 12, 1948. He grew up in Park City, Kentucky and was a 1966 graduate of Park City High School. Dale proudly served his country at home and abroad for 37 ½ years demonstrating a strong sense of duty and patriotism. He participated in Operation Desert Shield/Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom and several other civil emergency operations. He spent most of his career in Glasgow as the OMS #9 Supervisor. He retired in 2003 as the Command Sergeant Major of the 1st Battalion 623rd Field Artillery. He was always willing to go above and beyond, whether in his professional life or personal endeavors, never hesitating to lend a helping hand to those in need. Dale’s loyalty and integrity were the hallmarks of his character.
Above all, Dale was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He and his wife, Rita, were married for 57 years. His family was his greatest joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He taught his loved ones the importance of hard work, honesty, and the value of giving more than you take.
Dale is survived by his loving wife, Rita Lawrence Mitchell; two children, Debra Hughes (Jeff) and Scotty Mitchell (Leah); five grandchildren, Tyler Hughes (Catherine), Andrew Hughes (Danielle), Emma Hughes, Kaleb Mitchell, Jagger Mitchell; five great grandchildren, Griffin Hughes, Marleigh Hughes, Hadley Hughes, Jackson Hughes, and Madison Hughes; all who will carry forward his legacy of love and service; one brother, Mike Mitchell (Lisa); as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Frances Mitchell and a great granddaughter, Riley Anne Hughes. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Dale’s life will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 10th at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday afternoon from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Tuesday morning until time for the service at the funeral home.
