GLASGOW - Judge Edwin Powell Barlow Ropp, of Glasgow, passed away September 7, 2016 at TJ Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow. Born March 3, 1939, he was the son of the late Glen E. and Frances Barlow Ropp. Judge Ropp is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Ann Sams Ropp; two children: Powell (Cathy) of Smyrna, TN, and Katherine (Jonathan) of Seattle, WA; three grandchildren: Edwin Ropp, Augusta Castrodale, and Frances Castrodale; and one sister: Jennie Lou Ropp Brown (Grady) of Lake Providence, LA. Judge Ropp was a life-long member of the Glasgow Baptist Church, where he served in many leadership positions including deacon and church moderator. Judge Ropp was a graduate of Glasgow High School, Vanderbilt University, and the University Of Kentucky College Of Law. He returned to Glasgow in 1966 to begin his legal career. He worked first with Carroll Redford, Sr. and was later a partner in the law firms Travis, Ropp, and Davis and Richardson, Barrickman, Dickinson, and Ropp. During that time, he served the legal community as the Chairman of the Kentucky Board of Governors as well as in other official capacities. In 1993, he was elected District Judge of Barren and Metcalfe Counties. He served in this position until 2007, when he retired. Judge Ropp served active duty in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963 and enjoyed being active in many veterans' organizations including as an original member of the Glasgow-Barren County Veterans Wall of Honor. He was also an active member of numerous civic and legal organizations and was a life-long member of Phi Delta Theta. Judge Ropp loved to ride his motorcycle and was a member of Chapter 1 of Rolling Thunder. He was also an avid knife collector and trader. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 10th at 11:00 at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home in Glasgow. Burial will follow in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home on Friday, September 9th from 4:00 to 8:00. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to The Alzheimer's Foundation or Veterans organizations or any local charity.
