Whether you knew her as Elizabeth, Betty, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great Great Grandmother, Mother-in-law, Aunt Most of us called her GRANNY. Granny was a very special lady who was definitely one of a kind. She loved her family immensely. She also loved living, playing cards and board games. Every Wednesday, at North Hardin Nursing home, you would find her playing bingo. She really enjoyed it and you could bet that every bingo day she ALWAYS won stuffed animals and beanie babies. When you walked into her room it was like the invasion of the beanie babies. They were everywhere 2 and 3 deep. Granny's favorite one was her chiquaqua, because it reminded her of her beloved dogs, Taffy and Tiny. Granny always was an amazing dresser, always dressing in one of her beautiful blouses and stretch pants to match. She loved wearing her cameos, necklace, rings and earrings. Every Thursday she would go to the beauty shop and get her hair and nails done. Up until these last few months, Granny was a very independent, driving her hoover round up and down the halls of North Hardin, sometimes terrorizing anyone in her path. I always would tease her and called her 'speedy', then dared her to race me down the hall to her room. Of course, she always won! At one time, Granny was supposedly pre-engaged to her boyfriend, Chester She loved telling everyone that he was her boyfriend and was convinced that every woman in the assisted living was jealous and was trying to steal him away from her. Granny liked to joke and loved to be teased. In fact, Paul went to visit with her the day before she passed and even though she was weak and could barely talk, she joked with him. Paul asked her why her eye was red and she told him, clearly 'I've been drinking' and then she laughed out loud. I have wonderful memories of my visits with Granny. One memory I cherish was before she went to assisted living. My daughter, grandson and I went over to her home to visit with her. When we walked in, Granny was sitting on her couch. I went over to kiss her like always, and asked her if she had eaten any chocolate today? (She was a diabetic) Granny assured me that she had not. Then I asked her if she was sure she hadn't had any chocolate. Again she assured me she had not. Well my daughter, grandson and I just busted out laughing, because she clearly had chocolate in the corners of her mouth. When I told her why we were laughing, she just smiled and said that well she may have had just one piece. Her daughter, Rosey, and I were reminiscing yesterday and thought about how her passing was the day before Valentine's Day and that maybe, just maybe, she chose that particular day so she could start spending her eternity with her husband beginning on Valentine's Day. Granny was a very lovely, classy lady, who loved her family very, very deeply. She cherished every visit and every phone call she received. She was very proud of all her children and bragged about them almost every day. Granny had a wonderful, long, happy life. She loved living every minute of every day of every year of her 93 years she shared with us. Granny will definitely be missed, she'll always be remembered and deeply loved, not only through the lives and hearts of her children, but also through the lives and hearts of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchild. Please bow your heads: Rest in peace Granny. Watch over all of us left on this earth, until we can all be together again, in God's kingdom. Amen .
