Elliott Ray Mahurin, 77 of Tousey, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at his residence. He was born on Friday, March 1, 1940 in Grayson County, the son of the late Jesse Lee and Flora Dee (Cummings) Mahurin. He was a member of the Yeaman Church of Christ and also loved attending Wilson Home and Horse Branch General Baptist Churches. Ray was retired from Escue Wood Preserving in Millwood. His first job was with the Imperial Holmes in Louisville. He then worked in a toll booth on the Western KY Parkway. Ray also was a member of the Short Creek Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Logsdon) Mahurin, they were united in marriage October 14, 1960. To this union three children were born, Steve Mahurin of Caneyville, Pam Jaggers (Dennis) of Falls of Rough and Cindy Lively of Leitchfield. He is also survived by one brother, Eddie Mahurin (Sue) of Falls of Rough; seven grandchildren, Kresenda Frank, Samantha Embry (Joseph), Amanda Muse (David), Jessica Mahurin (Mitchell), Chaz Lively, Macy Lively and Erica Bennett; two step-grandchildren, Derek and Chris Jaggers and seven great-grandchildren. Other than his parents, Ray is preceded in death by two brothers, Kenny and Milbert Mahurin and one special cousin, Lewis Patterson. Ray lived a long and full life and gave lots of love to many. There were several people that considered him a dad and grandfather. He touched so many lives and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be Monday, October 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville. Bros Billy Curle and Terry Tarrance will be officiating. Burial will be in the Mahurin Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville Sunday after 11:00 am and Monday from 9:00 am until time of service.
