Essie Shipley

September 30, 1915 — June 30, 2020

Essie Ree Dickerson Shipley, the rock of our family, passed away June 30, 2020. Essie was born September 30, 1915 in the Flippin community of Monroe County, Kentucky. Her parents were Sherman and Maggie Dickerson. The family childhood home was in the Flippin area of Monroe County. She moved to the Temple Hill area as a young girl, working in the Elliott family home and on the farm where she lived the remainder of her life. While living there, she met her husband, Brents Shipley. After operating a country store and rolling store for a few years, Brents and Essie purchased the farm from the Elliott family where they lived the remainder of their lives. She helped farm the land and was a wonderful homemaker. Essie was an actively involved member of the Temple Hill Baptist Church from the time she was a young girl until her death, attending every service. She taught Sunday School for many years and loved and cared for everyone in the church, visiting the sick with food in hand. She loved every pastor and every member at Temple Hill Baptist. She was an active member of the Temple Hill Homemakers throughout her adult life. She loved her God, home, church, family, and friends. She loved every one of God's creatures, including animals. She was preceded in death in September 1980 by her husband of 44 years, Brents; her parents, Sherman and Maggie Dickerson; 3 full sisters, Bessie Lee, Tessie Bowman, Mary Zada Sparks Taylor; 15 half brothers and sisters; and her son-in-law, Donald Wayne McCubbin. Essie is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Brents Shipley McCubbin, and granddaughters, Donna Brents McCubbin and Dana Brady McCubbin.
