Frederick "Freddie" Lynn Travis, 87, of Glasgow, Kentucky, husband of Carey Sue Travis for 64 years, went home to be with the Lord on April 8, 2022. Born April 7, 1935, in Glasgow, to parents Horace Lynn and Mae Lentz Travis, Freddie possessed a hard driving personality, an entrepreneurial spirit, and servant heart. In his early years, Freddie was among the top tier of Glasgow High athletes, earning 25 total varsity letters in football, basketball, baseball, golf, track, and tennis, the latter of which he won the 1951 doubles state championship alongside Powell Gillenwater and the 1952 singles title. At Centre College, Freddie continued to develop his passion for hard work and civic mindedness serving in various student body roles and president of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, while playing sports and holding numerous part-time jobs. After college, Freddie married the love of his life Carey Sue Oliver of Glasgow on June 22, 1957, and then elected to serve his country, commissioning into the United States Marine Corps in 1957 and ultimately achieving the rank of Captain. Though he excelled in many areas; his lasting impact was that of a businessman and community servant. Following his time in the Marines, Freddie returned to Glasgow to join the family business, Ideal Hardware & Glasgow Trading Center which he ran alongside his dad and brother from 1960 until 1997. Freddie's involvement in his community was extensive and includes serving as president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, president of the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, chairman and co-founder of the Industrial Development Economic Authority (IDEA), chairman of the Glasgow Independent School Board for 16 years, member of the Western Kentucky Board of Regents, chairman of the WKU-Glasgow Advisory Council, director of the College Heights Foundation, New Farmers National Bank and several other bank boards. Freddie also served as Barren County Judge Executive from 1998 to 2002. Upon retirement, Freddie continued his involvement in various boards and community organizations, including Community Medical Care. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert Samuel "Bobby" Travis and son, Todd Oliver Travis. Those who continue to celebrate his life include his wife, Carey Sue Travis (Oliver), son Scott Travis (Lisa), daughter Lynn Travis Littrell (Wade), grandchildren Rick Travis (Karlee), Alex Travis Rice (Kyle), Travis Littrell, Shelby Todd Littrell, daughter-in law Diana Benoit (Marcel) and son Luke Benoit, and friends too numerous to mention. A memorial service to honor Freddie will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12th at First Christian Church, 1100 North Race Street, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until time for service. Burial to follow at the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery, 303 Leslie Avenue. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 11, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home, 201 E.
