Harry Bryant Pursley died Monday February 27, 2006 at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. He was 82 years old having been born in Barren County, KY on December 11, 1923 to Joshua Sherman and Mattie Mora Stringfield Pursley who preceeded him in death. He was a Disabled Veteran of WWII receiving the Purple Heart Medal. Listed as MIA and feared dead, he was found recuperating in an Army Hospital in the Philippines from whence he was eventually released and sent home from his service with honors. Prior to his War service, he was the State Golden Gloves Boxing Champion for 2 consecutive years in his wight class. After the Army, he moved to Iowa where he spent is life pursuing an extremely successful career in the automotive industry before retiring to Glasgow. He is survived by 2 daughters, Roxanne Rae Ciraco and husband Mickey of Florida, and Penny Lee Runyon and husband Jim of Georgia; 3 grandchildren Dominique, Anthony and Anna Marie Ciraco of Florida, and a sister Gladys Pauline Pursley Wells of Gallatin, TN,and a sister-in-law, Jean Pursley of Glasgow. He is survived localley by several nieces and nephews, Dawn Pursley Goodrum and husband David and sons Michael and Matthew who were also his caregivers, Phillip Clay Pursley and wife Carolyn, Carla Pursley Jones and husband Terry, Connie Jean Pursley Lyon, Shelia Rae Pursley Bunch and husband Willie. Also survived by other nieces and nephews, E.G. Garland Pursley and wife Deb of Nashville, TN, Tom Tipton and wife Becky of Coon Rapids, Iowa, Joyce Kohl and husband Jack of Kansas, Lougene Wells Sims and husband Joe Layne of Gallatin, TN, and Mike Pursley and wife Karen of Indianapolis, IN. Several great and great great nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers James Howard Pursley, Rev. Elmer Garland Pursley, Herbert Lee Pursley, Haskell Clay Pursley and Donald Ray Pursley, 2 sisters Delphia Lougene Pursley and Virginia Alene Pursley Tipton, 2 brothers in law Paul Wells and Floyd Tipton and 3 sisters in law Lou Crabtree Pursley, Geneva Taylor Pursley,and Helen Pursley. Funeral services will be at 1:00pm Friday March 3, 2006 at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3:00pm on Thursday.
