Helen Biggers Crabtree, 92, passed peacefully in her sleep on August 8, 2024. Helen was born in Temple Hill, Kentucky on September 26, 1931, to the late L.P. “Jack” Biggers and the late Pearl Button Biggers.
Helen was a 1950 graduate of Temple Hill High School and a graduate of the Spencerian College in Louisville. After graduating from college, Helen then worked for the Barren County Board of Education for 38 years filling various roles including the school secretary at Temple Hill High School and Finance manager at the Central Office. Helen has always had a civic minded heart. In addition to her work in the school system, Helen was an active member of the Democrat Party and Democratic Women’s Club where she held many offices; she was a Kentucky Colonel since 1981; and she was treasurer of the Temple Hill Volunteer Fire Department for 32 years.
Helen was a faithful and active member of the Temple Hill Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher in the 4–5-year-olds class for 53 years, an assistant clerk for several years, and one of the familiar faces in the kitchen for most of her adulthood.
Everyone who knew Helen would know how much she loved her family, cooking for everybody, gardening, flowers, and taking care of her yard. She was like no other, always busy and moving. If you were to look up the word hospitality in the dictionary, Helen’s name could be listed as an example. She will be missed by many who loved her dearly.
She is survived by four stepchildren: Lisa Ballard (Chuck), Bryan Crabtree (Michelle), Terri Matthews (Bo), and Chad Crabtree (Dawn). Seven step grandchildren: Erin Scott (Andrew), Blake Crabtree (Whitney), Greg Matthews, Luke Matthews (Emily), Britton Crabtree (Macie), Cailin Crabtree, and Taylor Crabtree. Three step great grandchildren: Olivia Crabtree, Aubrey Matthews, and Wade Crabtree with one more on the way soon. Her sister, Joyce Harvey. Her sister-in-law, Mary Jo Adams (Billy). And many very special nephews and nieces that she has helped to raise as her own children.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Crabtree; her parents, L.P. Jack Biggers and Pearl Button; her stepmother Bessie Hopkins Biggers and two sisters, Billie Biggers Shaw and Aldean Biggers.
