Helen Furlong Kinslow Mccandless

July 1, 1932 — April 20, 2024

Helen Furlong Kinslow McCandless, 91, of Park City, released this world with all six of her children by her bedside. Juanita said the last prayer as she passed peacefully to our heavenly family. Helen was born July 1, 1932 to the late E.E. (Chunk) Furlong and the late Opal Snoddy Furlong.

Helen was a beautiful lady without an enemy on this earth. She was the oldest member of the Old Zion Methodist Church. She was fearless and always loved learning new things. She loved her family, quilting, reading, traveling, flowers, cake decorating, cooking, and singing in church. Helen fed every person that came through her doors. She studied and gained her GED while her girls were in school, and then learned to decorate cakes and enjoyed making cakes for her family, friends, and community. Helen always inspired her children and their friends through her involvement with school and church to always follow their dreams. She traveled the United States and even went to Thailand. Helen was loved by all who met her and will be sorrowfully missed by many.


In 1947, Helen married Robert Kinslow who passed away in 1982. Helen and Robert had six children who she is survived by; son, Robert Wayne Kinslow; daughters, Anna Margaret Hubbard (Jeff) of Barren County, Juanita Lykens (Bobby) of Barren County, Mary Lou Duvall (Tim) of Barren County, Elizabeth K. Buckley of Edmonton, and Peggy Jo Kinslow Thomas of Barren County. Helen’s children brought great joy to her life with sixteen grandchildren which she adored, Jenny Perkins, George Kinslow, Dr. Chad Groce, Matthew Groce, Samantha Geralds, Deborah Pitcock, Tim Auger, Sarah Shirley, Amanda Thompson, Alan Miller, Brent Buckley, James Robert Buckley, Savannah Thomas, Summer Thomas, and Cole (Bubby) Meadows. Helen is also survived by twenty great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; sister, Nadine Brown; sister in law, Laverne Furlong. In 1989, Helen remarried to Elizie McCandless where she gained her step children, Rusty McCandless (Renee) and Ronnie McCandless; step grandchildren, Brock and Zack McCandless.


In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by Jeremiah Lykens, R. Wayne Kinslow Jr., Christopher Groce, Rosemary Gassaway, and two step granddaughters; brothers, Wayne Furlong (Louise), Maurice Furlong (Hilda), Emery Furlong (Musie), David Furlong; brother in law, J.T. Brown.


The funeral services for Helen will be held at 3:00pm Thursday, April 25th at Old Zion Methodist Church with burial in the Old Zion Cemetery. Visitation will begin Wednesday, April 24th at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and will continue Thursday morning until 12:00 PM. Visitation will resume at 1:00 PM at Old Zion Methodist Church until time for the service.
