James Marion

James Lee Marion (Jim) 64 of Glasgow passed away peacefully on August 21, 2014. Jim was born September 25, 1949, in Glasgow, KY. He was a 1967 graduate of Glasgow High School and a graduate of Western Kentucky University where he obtained his Bachelors, Masters and Rank I in Education. Jim began his teaching career at Olmstead High School after completing his graduate assistantship at Western Kentucky University while assisting Coach Jim Richards with the WKU Hilltoppers. He then taught biology at Allen County High School when Scottsville and Allen County High Schools merged and was the first boys' basketball coach for ACSHS. He also taught science at Glasgow Junior High School and was the boys' basketball coach. He began working for Pedigo-Lessenberry Insurance Agency as an independent insurance agent in September of 1980 and retired from there in February of 2014. Jim was a current member of the Glasgow City Council where has served for the past thirty years. He served on the Finance Committee for the city of Glasgow and the Glasgow Water Board. Jim has been a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Glasgow where he was also a member and teacher of the Open Door Sunday School Class. He is preceded in death by his parents Dr. and Mrs. Eugene L. Marion (Janet) of Glasgow. Jim is survived by his wife of 44 years, Debbie Marion; his two daughters, Jamie Biven (Jonathan) of Glasgow and Jill Marion of Lexington; his two granddaughters, Marion and Madeline Biven of Glasgow; three brothers, Wes Marion (Tina), Larry Marion (Donnie), and Todd Marion (Christy) all of Glasgow; his cousin Kathy Baker (Gary) of Bowling Green and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at the First United Methodist Church Saturday, August 23, 2014, from 8 am to 2 pm with the funeral immediately following at 2 pm in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church in Glasgow, KY. Burial will be in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of A. F. Crow and Son Funeral Home in Glasgow. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to the Building Fund of the First United Methodist Church, 500 S. Green St., Glasgow, KY 42141.
