James Clayton Proffitt 90 of Glasgow died Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. He was born in Barren County, a son of the late Hiley J. and Ella Gramlin Proffitt. Mr. Proffitt was a farmer and a butcher and was retired from Houchens Markets. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a Pearl Harbor survivor and was a member of the East Main St. Church of Christ. He is survived by a son Jimmy Proffitt and wife Vonda of Joelton, TN; a brother Paul Proffitt and wife Wanda of Glasgow; a sister Katherine Thomason of Ft. Mill, SC; 5 grandchildren Clay and Kirk Proffitt and Matt, Shawn and Mark Kand. Several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three wives, Mary Frances Chambers Proffitt, Ruby McPherson Proffitt and Robbie Gramlin Proffitt; a step-daughter Carolyn Kand; two sisters Zada May Mansfield and Christine Kinslow and four brothers, Charles, Ray, Alvin and Orval Proffitt. Funeral services will be 10:00am Friday, August 13, 2010 at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Poplar Log Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00pm Thursday. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to the East Main St. Church of Christ, Carnation Dr., Glasgow, KY 42141 or the American Cancer Society.
