Jay Houchin, 46, of Glasgow, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at his residence. He was born September 4, 1977, in Bowling Green, Kentucky to the late James Paul Houchin and late Irene (Lindsey) Esters. Jay was a proud member of the US Army for seven years where he served his country as a medic. Since retiring from the military, he served his community by providing schools with fresh fruit and vegetables that he and his wife grew on their farm, called the “Wondering Acres”. Jay was known by all the kids at the local schools as the “Watermelon Man”. Jay loved spending time with his family and friends, farming, growing his prize watermelons, being a jokester, hunting, fishing, and growing any kind of plants.
Jay’s family would like to raise awareness for suicide prevention for veterans that serve our country. Suicide and mental illness should be treated with diligence and the seriousness that it deserves. They would like to urge anyone that feels that their loved one or their self needs assistance to please reach out for help.
He is survived by his wife of sixteen years, Lillian Scoggins; his children, Jade Houchin “Lee” (Peter), Maddison Houchin (Gunnar), Denver Houchin, Adeline Houchin; grandchild, Everly Houchin; brother, Jonathan Houchin (Amy); sisters, Teresa Lowe, Amy Lynn Dennison; several aunts and uncles; several nieces and nephews.
