Jerry Harris

Jerry Lee Harris 66 of Glasgow, KY died Saturday evening February 21, 2004 at his home. He was born in Whitley County, KY and was a resident of Glasgow for 43 years. He was the son of the late Steely and Elizabeth Brown Harris of Corbin, KY and was married 47 years to the recently deceased Martha Jewell Harris. Jerry was a graduate of Eastern KY University and later served there as a professor of accounting. In Glasgow he was a Certified Public Account and a partner in the accounting firms of Yeager, Ford & Warner and Harris, Love & Poynter. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Glasgow Golf and Country Club, a charter member of the Glasgow Quarterback Club, former member of the Glasgow-Barren County Jaycees, and was a member of the Glasgow Rotary Club where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow. Mr. Harris was also a former member and coach with the Glasgow Little League Program, an active member of the Glasgow-Barren County Republican Party and was currently serving as a Glasgow City Councilman and has been for the past eight years. And very important in his life was his active membership at the Columbia Ave. Church of Christ where he was currently serving as an Elder in the Church. He is survived by 2 sons Mike Harris and wife Kathy of Glasgow and Greg Harris and wife Laura of Glasgow; 6 grandchildren Meagan, Laura Beth, Michael, Steely, Henry and Hadley Harris all of Glasgow; 2 sisters Phyllis Jett and husband Bill of Lexington and Janice Gambrell and husband Joe of Lexington. In addition to his parents and wife, a son Barry Keith Harris preceded him in death. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Tuesday Feb. 24, 2004 at the Columbia Ave. Church of Christ in Glasgow with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home on Monday from 3:00pm until 9:00pm and on Tuesday at the Columbia Ave. Church of Christ from 10:00am until time for services. Jerry was an inspiration to many with his faith, courage, perserverance and uncomparable will to live.
