John G. "Bubby" Yates

John G. Bubby Yates 74 of Glasgow died Thursday, October 27, 2011 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green. He was born July 17, 1937 in Barren County, the son of the late Gilbert and Leon Barbour Yates. John graduated from Glasgow High School in 1955 and served four years in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Ponchatoula. He was co-owner of Southern Kentucky Electric Motor for thirty years and was a member of the Grider Memorial Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sue Groce Yates; a daughter Lana Rae Blaine (Jeff) of Bowling Green; a son John B. Yates (Amy) of Mt. Vernon, KY; 5 grandchildren Cole, Caroline and Seth Blaine and Laurel and Sawyer Yates and 1 sister Marge Word (Harry) of Glasgow. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Jimmy Yates, a sister Lita McDaniel and two infant sisters. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 30, 2011 at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4:00pm Saturday and continue Sunday until time for the service.
