John Marshall Bowles

October 24, 1951 — December 20, 2022

John Marshall Bowles, 71, Glasgow, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at the Medical Center at Bowling Green. He was surrounded by family when he peacefully succumbed to long term health ailments. He was born on October 24, 1951 in Barren County, Kentucky. His father, Lucian Jewel Bowles and mother, Edna Dugard Bowles, preceded him in death along with four siblings, Margaret Poynter, Dorothy Willoughby, David Eugene Bowles and Terry Bowles. He leaves a loving wife, Donna Leigh Metcalfe Bowles; three sisters, Barbara Dilley (Johnny), Lena Connell (Dan), and Debbie Maziarz (Bruce Kohnz); two brothers, Donald Bowles (Tish), Jerry Bowles (Jan); and several nieces and nephews. He has three sons, one step son, and nine grandchildren. His sons are Marshall Todd Carter (Amy), John Marshall Bowles II, Brian Terry Bowles (Amber), and Nathan West Harris (Jayme). His grandchildren are Jentry Lynn Bowles, Oliver Murphy Harris, Tanner Lane Carter, Myles Samuel Harris, Ross Elliott Bowles, Cale Howard Harris, Dylan Cole Bowles, Landry Travis Carter, and Crosby Russell Harris. He attended Lick Branch Elementary, Eastern Elementary, and Temple Hill High School, graduating in 1969. After high school, he worked at South Central Rural Telephone Cooperative for 37 years. He always spoke of the relationships and memories with this second family. He worked part-time after retirement at Lessenberry's Plumbing and Electric doing what he truly enjoyed, helping others and working inside the building industry. Everyone who knows John will share memories of how he never met a stranger and that he never had a short version of a story. He served the community with the CERT and the Glasgow Baptist Church's "White Christmas Food Basket Program." He loved taking mission trips through the United States and took pride in the work of remodeling church properties. He was part of the Southern Baptist Emergency Laundry Program and was onsite at several disasters to help those in need. He loved the card games of bridge and rummy, riding his motorcycle, and cooking for people. The funeral service for Mr. Bowles will be held 12:00 PM Tuesday, December 27th at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Bowles Cemetery on Highway 6880. Visitation will be on Monday from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Tuesday morning until time for the service at the funeral home. A. F.
