John T. Peden 85 of Glasgow died Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. Born in Barren Co. he was the son of the late Josh & Florence Walker Peden. Mr. Peden was a graduate of Tompkinsville High School in 1940, a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army 78th Division, H & S Co. 303 Engineering BN and a member of the Freedom Team U. S. Army. He was also a private, commercial and instrument rated Pilot, retired from Handmachers of Glasgow May 17, 1973 with 27years and President of Peden Service, Inc.. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the TPA, the Barren River Rod and Gun Club and a Bronze Leader in the DAV Commanders Club. He was on the Board of Directors of Kentucky Trapshooter league, a ATA Alternate Delegate, ATA Delegate, First Vice President and President. John was inducted into the Kentucky Trapshooter Hall of Fame in 1979. His other hobbies included traveling, hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Smith Peden of Glasgow; a daughter Nikki L. Norman (L.C.) of Beverly Beach, FL; a sister Imogene Bowman-Howard; four nieces Betty Shelman (David), Faye Patton (Dr. Marcus Patton), Glenda Mutter (Bruce) and Sandra Simmons; sisters-in-law Violet M. Davis (Roy Lee), Carolyn Harper ( Buddy), Sarah A. Shaw (Joe), Janie R. Shaw (Franklin), Sue Forrest Chapman (Herb), Judy F. Young (Charles) and Gladys P. Spillman (Richard); Brothers-in-law Numia H. Smith (Diana), James T. Smith (Jane), Larry M. Smith (Cathy), Terry E. Smith (Melissia) and Leslie D. Smith; several other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters Mary Catherine Bartley (Lester) and Fannie Bell Smith (Jack) and two brothers-in-law Lovell Bowman and Bronston Howard. Graveside services will be 1:00pm Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Peden Choose cremation. A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Alternate expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or Kosairs Childrens Hospital.
