John Aldon Schum 65 of Horse Cave died Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. Born in Huntingburg, IN he was the son of the late Alois & Ruth Whitaker Schum. Mr. Schum and his wife Dinah were self-employed Granite Etching Artist for numerous monuments companies from Illinois to the Virginia border. He and his wife were members of the St. Helen's Catholic Church and Our Lady of the Caves Catholic Church where they served as a Liturgist and musicians. Survivors include his wife Dinah Schatz Schum of Horse Cave, KY; a daughter Chiara Schum of Evansville, IN; a son Jonathan Schum of Huntingburg, IN; three step-children Jill VanHoosier of St. Meinard, IN, Jamey Marrs of Newburg, IN and Jackie Barnett of St. Meinard, IN and 8 step grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Jerry Whitten. There will be a Requiem Mass Service at 12:00pm Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Our Lady of the Caves Catholic Church in Horse Cave, KY. Visitation will be after 1:00pm-8:00pm Tuesday at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with a Rosary service at 7:00pm, visitation will continue on Wednesday from 9:00am until 11:30am at the funeral home. Graveside services will be 11:00am Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Dale, IN.
