JOHN SIDUN Scientist and Educator John Sidun of Houston, Texas, and formally of Glasgow and New Jersey, died on Monday, August 13, 2007 in Houston at the age of 91. He was born in New York City on January 17, 1916 to the late Charles and Margaret Sidun and was the oldest of eight children. He was educated in Cartaret, New Jersey, received undergraduate and masters degrees in education from Rutgers University, and attended NYU and Cornell for post-graduate studies. John served during World War II and the Korean Conflict and received a victory medal from WW II. During his time in the service, he met his wife, Evie Biggers Lyons, on a blind date. They were married for 41 years until her death on September 30, 1984. In New Jersey, John taught chemistry at Hillside High School for over 20 years before entering the research field at Allied Chemical as a micro-analytical chemist and continued his love of chemistry through his membership in the American Chemical Society. He and his wife joined Madison Presbyterian Church in 1955 and became involved as a teacher, deacon, and elder. When he retired and moved to Kentucky, John became an energy consultant. He was an active member at First Presbyterian Church of Glasgow and by serving on the Property Committee was able to utilize his knowledge of energy conservation.
