John Edwards Wood 95 of Glasgow died Monday, December 7, 2015 at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. He was born in Ether, NC the son of the late John Lee Wood and Nancy Edwards Phillips Wood. John served in the Civilian Conservation Corps prior to enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1941. He was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor and fought in the Battle of Midway Island. He served with both the 4th and 6th Defense Battalions. He was a member and past president of the Kentucky chapter of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Marine Corps League and the Disabled American Veterans. After his military service he was a broadcasting engineer for WKAY and WGGC radio for over 41 years. He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class for which he was treasurer. He is survived by a son John Edwards 'Eddie' Wood, Jr. (Brenda) of Louisville; 2 daughters Candace Steen of Glasgow and Carrie Lamb (Paul) of Nashville; 5 grandchildren Febbie Allen (Mike) of Glasgow, Tobey Bright (Ronnie) and Erin Wood both of Louisville, Jodie Fogle (Philip) of Cox's Creek and Thomas Wood (Amber) of Mt. Washington; 7 great-grandchildren Brittany Allen, Jarrod and Alyssa Bright, Bethany and Kayden Fogle, and Madison and John Branson Wood. He was also survived by his loving pets, Princess and Midnight. He was preceded in death by his wife, Glindoln Guinn Wood. The family would like to offer a special thank you to his caregivers, Jewell Conaster, Margaret Berryman, Ashley Smith, Shirley Rhoton and Tammy Smith. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, December 11th at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be provided by D.A.V. Chapter 20 of Glasgow. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 until 8:00 and Friday morning until time for the services. Alternate expression of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to the Marine Corps League Scholarship Fund or D.A. V. Chapter 20 of Glasgow
