Karl Herbert Weis 68 of Glasgow, Kentucky died Wednesday, November 08, 2006 in Glasgow at his home after a battle with esophageal cancer. He was born Sept. 21, 1938 in Louisville, KY to Phil and Esther Weis. He was the first generation of his immigrant father Phil, to be born on U.S. soil. He attended dupont Manual High School and graduated from Valley High School where he played football and later graduated from Western KY State College where he majored in industrial arts. He married his wife Nancy Flint, Sept. 5, 1959 and both became teachers at the Glasgow High School on Liberty St. where Karl taught first Industrial Arts and then Art for 32 years. He was always involved with projects at the school and he designed the present Logo for the high school. He was also a former member of the Kentucky National Guard for several years. After retiring from GHS, he started and owned Weis Jewelers for 10 years and throughout his life was an avid collector in the area of art, antiques and autos. He was very active in community affairs and helped with planning many festivals and events. He designed many of the interiors and collected artwork for Citizens National Bank, the Copper Frog Restaurant, the Renos Restaurant and the Floyd Collins Museum. Most recently he was a member of the Board of Directors for the Cultural Center and the Glasgow-Barren Co. Chamber of Commerce and still had time for his hobbies of hunting, antique cars and swap meets. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nancy Flint Weis; a daughter Karla Weis Halleron and son-in-law CJ Halleron of Louisville; his mother Esther Ruth Ferguson Weis of Louisville; a brother Philip Weis of Louisville; his mother-in-law Mabel Irene Flint of Louisville; a brother-in-law Harold Flint and wife Susan of Glenridge, NJ; several cousins and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be 10:00am Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville, KY. Visitation will be after 4:00pm Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Diabetes Assn. or the American Cancer Society.
