Logan "Larry" "Sonny" Edward Calhoun

Logan “Larry” “Sonny” Edward Calhoun, 98, formerly of Finney, Kentucky passed away Friday, May 31, 2024 at Thomson Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Kentucky. He was born on October 27, 1925 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Rolly Logan Calhoun and America Mary Ann Stone. He was a graduate of Upper Iowa State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in history. Larry was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He fought in WWII, where he was wounded and was awarded a Bronze Star for his valor in combat. After serving 26 years in the Army, he retired as a CWO4 (Chief Warrant Officer 4). He then began a career with the U.S. Department of Labor as an OSHA Inspector for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.


In 1990 he, and his wife, Lucille (Catherine Lucille Sweat) retired and moved to Finney. While in Finney, they enjoyed an active and fulfilling “retirement”. He especially enjoyed travelling with his family and for reunions with his WWII Army Buddies, The “Blackhawks” of the 86th Army Infantry Division. Larry was a Certified Genealogist and wrote many books on genealogy. He also published local history books of Barren County and was a founding member of the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center. He was extremely active in the Glasgow Highland Games, was a member of the SAR, and was an active member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church for many years.


He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Rose Keim (Donald); son, David Lawrence Calhoun (Mary Margaret); five grandchildren; Michael Chung Calhoun, Sara Ann Keim, Daniel Joseph Calhoun, William Carl Keim, Theresa Ann Calhoun; four great grandchildren; Michael Jecobe Calhoun, Alencia Danielle Simpson, Elijah Nathaniel Simpson, Jazlyn Myana Bene; one great, great grandchild; Ari Patricia Calhoun; uncle Sonny to Karl Everett, Jr. (Betty Lou); great uncle Sonny to Amanda Lynn Monroe (Nathan); and great great uncle Sonny to Waylon Monroe.

In addition to his parents, sister Hallie, and wife, Lucille, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Martha Ann DiUbaldo and his first wife, Ruby Angeline Campbell.


The funeral service for Mr. Calhoun will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 4th at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by DAV Chapter #20. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until time for the service at the funeral home.
