Louie Broady Nunn 56th Governor of KY, passed away at his Versailles home on Thursday Jan. 29, 2004 at the age of 79. Born to Waller Harrison and Mary Roberts Nunn in the rural community of Park in Barren County, Gov. Nunn attended Bowling Green Business School, the University of Cincinnati and the University of Louisville School of Law and served in the U. S. Army during WWII. He practiced law in Glasgow, KY where he met and married Beula Cornelius Nunn. He served as County Judge of Barren County from 1952 to 1956 and Gov. of KY from 1967 to 1971. He is survived by his children, daughter Jennie Lou Nunn Penn and husband John of Frankfort and their daughters Margaret Cornelius of Alexandria, VA, Rachel Roberts of Lexington and Jessica Paige Penn of Frankfort; son State Rep. Steve Nunn and wife Tracey of Glasgow, KY and his 3 children Mary Elizabeth, Robert Issac and Katherine Courtney Nunn all of Bowling Green; a sister Virginia Nunn Strobecker (Edwin) of Park, KY; 2 step children, Joe W. Aspley, Jr. wife Jean and daughter Paula of Lexington, KY and Donald Bruce Aspley wife Brenda of Greenville, TN, and 3 children D. Bruce Aspley, Jr. Atlanta, GA, James William Aspley of North Carolina and Rebecca Youngblood of California and the children of step daughter Mary Susan Aspley Krieger who died in 1977, Stephen Leslie Krieger (Robin) and Mary Catherine Krieger May (Kerry) of Maryland and Elizabeth Krieger May of Tennessee as well as 15 great grandchildren also survive. Visitation for Gov. Nunn will be on Sunday from 1-5 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home in Lexington; Monday from 4-8pm at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home in Glasgow with funeral services 10am Tuesday (c.s.t.) at the First Christian Church in Glasgow. Burial will be in the Cosby Cemetery near Park, KY. In Lieu of flowers, rememberances are suggested to the Kentucky Mansions Preservation Foundation, Inc., P. O. Box 132, Lexington, KY 40588 and to the Oral History Department at the University of Kentucky.
