Mary Hawkins

Mary Helen (Shain) Hawkins, 80, formerly of Millwood, passed away Tuesday, November 17th, 2015 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center in Frankfort, KY. She was born on Saturday, September 21st, 1935 in Pine Knob, the daughter of the late Leo L. and Fronia (Woosley) Shain. Mary Helen was a member of the Pine Knob Primitive Baptist Church and retired from the Kentucky State Library and Archives in Frankfort. Mary Helen is survived by her husband of more than 60 years, Charles R. Hawkins of Frankfort; one daughter, Carla Jean Hawkins of Frankfort; one son, John Eric Hawkins of Louisville; one grandson, Charles Andrew Hawkins (Renee); one great-grandson, Shawn Andrew Hawkins both of Frankfort; one brother, Isaac E. Shain (Dorothy) of Louisville and two sisters, Wilma D. Carwile of Leitchfield and Ruth Ann Blair (Joe) of Louisville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be Thursday, November 19th at 2:00 pm at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville. Bro David Brown will be officiating. Burial will be in the Deweese Cemetery at Pine Knob.Friends may call at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville Wednesday after 3:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Hospice of the Bluegrass.
