Mary Wood

Mary Jewell Wood, 88, of Hillcrest Healthcare, passed away Monday, January 20, 2014 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born February 11, 1925 in Calhoun, Kentucky to the late Albert and Rosie Sandefur Jewell. She retired from G.E., was an avid U.K. Wildcat fan, cheered the Atlanta Braves and loved country music with favorites in her early years being Conway Twitty and Elvis and most recently, Toby Keith. Aside from her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Earl Wood (2003), a son, Jackie Jewell (1990), one brother, Bill Jewell, three sisters, Henrietta Woosley, Iva Cauley and JoNell Shively. She is survived by a sister, Emily Westerfield, formerly of Owensboro; daughter-in-law, Carol Jewell of Owensboro; three grandchildren, Terri Least, Jackie Jewell, Steve Jewell; seven great grandchildren, Brett, Ryne, Luke, Jaclyn, Josh, Matthew and Tucker. Services will be 12:30 p.m. Friday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home with Reverend Peggy Smith presiding and burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
