Mathew Cary Hood, 81, of Glasgow, died Saturday, March 3rd, 2012 at his home. He was born in Hancock County and was the son of the late Olison C. Hood and Cora Elizabeth Cary Hood. Dr. Hood practiced dentistry for 2 years in Edmonton with Dr. J.M. Hayes and then in Glasgow for the next 48 years. He graduated from Cumberland County High School in 1948 and from Western Kentucky University in 1954 where he majored in biology. Before entering dental school he was a teacher in Cumberland County and then in Temple Hill. He was a member of the 1959 graduating class of the University of Louisville Dental School. Dr. Hood was a member of the Glasgow Baptist Church, a past member of the Glasgow City Council as well as the Glasgow Jaycees. He was an avid reader of history and loved the outdoors. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sue Fraser Hood; three daughters, Dr. Mary Hood of New Orleans, Louisiana, Kelly Beals(Tim) of Glasgow, and Linda Jessee(Mike) of Louisville; 5 grandchildren, Kateland Beals, Chicago, Illinois, Mathew Beals, Glasgow, and Morgan, Shelby and Ella Jessee, Louisville. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Philip Dayton Hood. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday, March 8th at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with the burial services following at the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5pm on Wednesday and before services on Thursday.
