Mollie Oliver Thompson,85, of Glasgow, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, Sunday, November 10, 2024, at the Shanti Niketan Hospice Home. Mollie Sue was born in Hestand, Kentucky on November 9, 1939, to the late James M. Oliver and the late Grace Baxter Oliver at the home of her maternal grandparents, Wolford and Elsie Bushong Baxter. She graduated from Temple Hill High School in 1958 and Morrison Business School in 1962. Mollie later earned a degree in Nutrition from Bowling Green Vo-Tech School.


Mollie attended Poplar Log Church of Christ where she was a faithful member and adored her church family. She made a career of serving others from a secretary for Judge Frank Jones, deputy county court clerk for Wilmer Hodges, manager of Glasgow Holiday Inn, manager of Bolton’s Landing, manager of the Bowling Green Country Club, and coordinator of the Cave City Convention Center. Her most rewarding job was serving the students at Warren Central High School, where she was the cafeteria manager for 34 years, where she retired at the age of 82 when her health began to decline.


Mollie received several awards during her tenure in the food service industry including the Louise Sublett Award for child nutrition, Cave Country Dream Factory Service Award, National School Food Service Foundation Award, Best of the Midwest Outstanding Food Service Manager, Who’s Who of American Women, and Helen Davis Nutrition Hall of Fame.


Mollie also served her community as president of the Cave Country Restaurant Association, Bowling Green- Warren County Food Service Association, Kay Bledsoe B & PW Club, and one of the organizers of the first Glasgow Highland Games.


Mollie is survived by her daughter, Cindy Wilson (Gary); grandchildren, Joey Wilson and Julie Kate Groce (Josh); great grandchildren, Jackson Wilson, Aubree Groce, and Ryker Groce; special friend, Charles Freeman; caregiver, Ashleigh Durham, and her Highland Ridge Family.


In addition to her parents, Mollie was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Miller Thompson.


The family would like to extend a special thank you to the kind and compassionate staff at the Shanti Niketan Hospice Home.


Expressions of sympathy are requested to be made to the Potter Children’s Home at 2350 Nashville Rd. Bowling Green, Kentucky 42101.


The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 16th, at A.F. Crow and Son Funeral Home with burial in the Poplar Log Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Saturday morning until time for the service at the funeral home.
