Olga Norris

Olga Elizabeth Lane Norris, age 102, died on Friday, May 13, 2011 at the Barren County Health Care in Glasgow, KY. She was born in Metcalfe County February 17, 1909, daughter of the late Thomas and Lillian Neal Lane. Mrs. Norris was a member of First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for over 30 years, served as a youth director, and participated in FUMC Circle for many years. She attended schools in Metcalfe County and earned degrees and certificates from Western KY University, George Peabody College and the University of KY preparing to teach social studies. She began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse, taught for two years in Dexter, MS and continued teaching for 33 years at the Glasgow Jr. High School. During WWII, she was a volunteer nurse aide at T. J. Samson Hospital and later became a L.P.N. She was an active member in local, district and state levels of education, serving for a time as president of the Glasgow Education Assn. and representing the third district of KY Education Assn on the Teachers Educational and Professional Standards Committee.
