Paul Coats

Paul Coats Jr, 78, of Caneyville, passed away Friday, May 23rd, 2014 at his residence. He was born on April 20th, 1936 in Edmonson County, the son of the late Paul Sr and Reva (Seaton) Coats. He was the former Chairman of the Board for the Caney Creek Watershed, a past member of the Caneyville Volunteer Fire Department, a substitute teacher and farmer, was employed at the Green River Steel Mill and worked in retailing with his wife. Paul was a member of the Shrewsbury Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Rose (Pharris) Coats; three daughters, Pam Parrigan of Caneyville, Paula Lindsey (Jimmy) of Florence, SC and Trenya Pierce (Mike) of Caneyville; four grandchildren, Jeremiah Parrigan (Rhonda) of Caneyville, Caleb Parrigan (Lauren) of Bowling Green, Seth Parrigan of Leitchfield and Eva Pierce of Caneyville; two great-grandchildren, Macy and Hunter Parrigan of Caneyville, one sister, Margaret Woosley (Hillard) of Leitchfield and several nieces and nephews. Other than his parents, Paul is preceded in death by his son, Chris Coats and his brother, David Coats.Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 am at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville. Bro Paul Childress will be officiating. Burial will be in the Layman Memorial Cemetery.Friends may call at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville Saturday after 6:00 pm, Sunday from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm and Monday from 9:00 am until time of service.In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations may be made to the Paul Coats Caney Creek Watershed Scholarship Fund.
