Phoebe Matthews

Phoebe Ellen Harlan Matthews 94 of Glasgow died Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Sayre Christian Village in Lexington, KY. She was born in Barren County, daughter of the late John B. and Nellie Williams Harlan. She was a member of Glasgow First United Methodist Church, and the Fellowship Sunday School class, had served on Southern States F.H.A.C. committee, a member of T. J. Samson Hospital Auxiliary, and was very active with Red Cross Blood drives and the Democratic Women. She was married for 61 years to Marvin R. Matthews, who preceded her in death in April, 2002. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Kelver (John) of Lexington and Lunelle Matthews of Winchester; eight grandchildren Joe Harlan Stone, Glasgow, Matthew Stone (Mary), Louisville, Brett Kelver, Portland, OR, Trista Kelver, San Francisco, CA, Wade Stone (Melissa), Glasgow, Benjamin Meurer (Jamie), Winchester, Mary Ellen Ford, Louisville and William Meurer (Ashley), Winchester; 10 great-grandchildren Kodie and Saige Stone, Nelson, Nicholas and Samantha Stone, Madalyn, Maci and Grant Meurer, Benjamin Taylor Stone and Sydney Ellen Ford. She is also survived by niece Stacy Harlan Ortez (David) of Leesburg, GA, nephew Butch Harlan (Debbie) of Columbus, GA; son-in-law Bob Stone (Loretta) of Glasgow, John Meurer of Lexington and several Matthews nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, a brother John B. Harlan and a daughter Kaye Stone. Celebration of life service will be 11am Saturday, March 14th at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9 until 11.
