Col. Ralph Lewis Palmore, Ret., 84 of Glasgow died Monday, August 6, 2013 at the Barren County Health Care Facility in Glasgow. The Barren County native was the son of the late W. C. and Kathryn Lewis Palmore. Col. Palmore was a veteran of the Korean War and was retired from military service after 31 years. He holds the distinction of having held both the senior enlisted position in the 623rd Battalion during Korea and later serving as its commanding officer. He moved to Frankfort to continue his service with the KY National Guard and while in Frankfort he served as Chief of Staff for the Kentucky Army National Guard from March 1980-September 1983 when he retired. Ralph moved back home to Glasgow two and a half years ago where he lived until his death. He was active locally with the Kiwanis and J C's clubs and other organizations and was a former member of the Glasgow Baptist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Kathy Billingsley and husband Bobby of Smiths Grove, KY; 2 sons Joe Palmore and wife Julie of Frankfort, KY, Greg Palmore and wife Julia of Richmond, KY; 5 grandchildren Eric (Sara) Comley, Kyle Comley, Ashlye Comley, Samantha Mae Palmore and Jacob Lewis Palmore; 1 great grandchild Addison Comley; his sister Alice Lane and husband Ken of Glasgow; a sister-in-law Marjorie Palmore of Glasgow and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Patty Lou and two brothers W.C. and James Potter Palmore. Funeral services will be 2pm Thursday, August 8th at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will be in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2pm Wednesday.
