Robert Goodman, Sr.

Robert Franklin Goodman, Sr. died at his residence on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the age of 96. Born in 1912, he was the son of the late Clara Franklin Goodman and Charles Austin Goodman, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Jane Terry Goodman and a brother Charles A. Goodman, Jr. After retiring as District Manager for Ashland Oil and Refining Company, Mr. Goodman worked for a number of years as a patient Assistant at Downing-McPeak Vision Center. A lifelong member of Glasgow Baptist Church, he served as Deacon and was for many years teacher of the Go-Get-Em Sunday School class. He was involved in a variety of community activities, and had been a member of the Glasgow Lions Club and Glasgow Rotary Club. Survivors include a brother Julian Goodman and wife Betty of Jupiter, FL; a sister-in-law Emily T. Grinstead of Glasgow; three children Terry G. Gillespie of Glasgow, Robert F. Goodman, Jr. and wife Alexa of Atlanta, GA and Charles A. Goodman III and wife Peggy of Glasgow; four grandchildren David Gillespie of Glasgow, Elizabeth King of George Town, Grand Cayman, Nathaniel Goodman of Glasgow and Jane Kendrick Goodman of Atlanta, GA; two great granddaughters Shannon Gillespie of Des Moines, IA and Jordanne Goodman of Glasgow, two great great granddaughters and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 11:00am Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may be made to the Community Relief Fund/Salvation Army at 123 E.
