Robert Samuel 'Bobby' Travis 76 of Glasgow died Saturday, April 5, 2014 at his home. Born in Glasgow, he was a son of the late Horace and Mae Lentz Travis. He was a graduate of Glasgow High School and Centre College and was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corp Reserve with the rank of Major. Along with his brother Freddie, he owned and operated Ideal Hardware-Glasgow Trading Center and was very active in the community serving as chairman of the Housing Authority of Glasgow, Glasgow-Barren County Veterans Wall of Honor, and Fort Williams Restoration Committee. He also served as executive director for the local American Red Cross Chapter. He was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, U.S. Marine Corp League, Barren County Veterans Assn., Veterans of Foreign War and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife Sandra Lykens Travis; his daughter Casey Travis of Glasgow; his step-son Eric Johnson (Kimberly) of Glasgow; 3 grandchildren Sgt. William Travis Jones, Katherine Jones and Evan Johnson; a brother Freddie Travis (Sue) of Glasgow and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11am Tuesday, April 8th at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery with military honors provided by D.A.V. Chapter 20 of Glasgow. Visitation will begin at 5pm Monday. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to the T. J. Samson Hospice Program or Community Medical Care.
