Robert William 'Dutch' Thum, Sr. 87 of Glasgow died Sunday, November 16, 2014 at T. J. Samson Community Hospital. Born in Columbus, OH he was the son of the late John Joseph Thum and Greta Smith Thum. Mr. Thum was a former school teacher at Hiseville and was a construction superintendent with Ernest Simpson Construction Co. and Jones, Nance and Steinman Co. His favorite pastime was bowling and he attended the Dover Baptist Church at Haywood. He was a veteran serving in the U. S. Army and the Navy and served during WWII and the Korean War. Survivors include his wife Dorothy; a son Robert Thum, Jr. (Cheryl), 2 daughters Terry Thum Johnson and Melissa Thum Chapman (Charles) all of Glasgow; 2 step daughters Wanda Green (Jimmy) of Glasgow and Shelia Whitley (Ricky) of Smiths Grove; 3 grandchildren Andy Thum, Daylan Chapman and Breawna Chapman; 1 great grandchild Cory Thum; 6 step grandchildren; 11 step great-grandchildren; 1 sister Clara Buchman (Ralph) of Glouster, OH and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Wanda Simpson Thum, a step-son James Franklin Cash, a grandson Ron Thum, a brother Joe and sisters Virginia, Mildred and Wortha. Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday, November 19th at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with cremation to follow. Visitation will begin at 2pm Tuesday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
