Ret. CWO2 Ronald Eugene Mortimer 75 of Glasgow died Friday, January 04, 2013 at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. He was born August 26, 1937 in Kane, PA, the son of the late Sgt. Maj. George and Ruth Mortimer. He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Morgan and they celebrated 54 years of marriage in December. After high school Ronald joined the Army in 1954 and served for 21 years. He served in the Vietnam War as a helicopter pilot and was the recipient of many awards including Air Medal-25, Army Aviator Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Silver Service Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He retired in 1975, achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2nd Class. After retirement Mr. Mortimer continued his flying career here in Glasgow for Southern Explosives. Later he retired from Wininger Oil Company. He was an avid member of the YMCA. He is survived by his wife Margaret; his son Jimmy (Beverly) Mortimer; his daughter Kellie (Kevin) Patterson all of Glasgow; brothers Lance Mortimer of Virginia and Ted Mortimer of New York; his grandchildren Jimmy Ray Mortimer II of New York, NY, Quinn Patterson of Glasgow, Allison (Andy) Mello of Brownsville and Adam (LeAnn) Brown of Bowling Green; great grandchildren Gavin and Shelby Brown and several other relatives. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday, January 7, 2013 at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3pm until 8pm and Monday morning until time for the service. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society.
