Ronald Joe Ramsey Sr., 78, of Glasgow died Saturday June 4, 2016 at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Cleveland, TN the son of the late W.J. and Dorothy Smith Ramsey. He was the oldest of seven children. He graduated from Tompkinsville High School in 1956. He then joined the U.S. Air Force in 1956. He served in Japan, Illinois, Vietnam, Fort Knox, Newburgh, NY, Colorado Springs, CO. and Ramstein, Germany. He retired from the Air Force in 1976 and moved back to Glasgow. He was the executive director of the Kentucky Farm Worker Program for 32 years. He was a member of Glasgow Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and others church offices to include Sunday school teacher. He married Carol Miller on Feb. 14, 1957. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Rhonda Ramsey Raleigh (Harold) of Shelbyville; 2 sons Ronald Joe Ramsey Jr. (Cathy) of Owensboro and William Miller Ramsey (JuneAnn) of Bowling Green; 5 brothers Jerry Ramsey (Helen) of Valdosta, GA, George Ramsey (Peggy) of Haywood, KY, John Ramsey (Charlotte) of Glasgow and Tommy Ramsey (Gretta) of Spartanburg, SC; sister Betty Ramsey Ford (Joe) of Tompkinsville; sister-in-law Bonnie Ramsey of Indianapolis, IN; 7 grandchildren Sean Raleigh (Vara) of Belgium, Kevin Raleigh (Christy) of Fisherville, Ronald Joe Ramsey III and Alyssa Ramsey both of Owensboro and Miller, Lee & Christopher Ramsey all of Bowling Green. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother Jimmy Ramsey. Funeral services will be11:00am Wednesday June 8, 2016 at the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral with burial in the Skaggs Creek Cemetery in Monroe County. Military Honors will be provided by the 88 Force Support Squadron, Wright- Patterson Air Force Base, OH. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 3:00pm till 8:00pm at the funeral home. Family request that in addition to flowers a memorial contribution be made to the Skaggs Creek Cemetery Fund.
