Velma 'Jean' Bowles 81 of Glasgow died Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Western State Nursing Facility in Hopkinsville. She was born in Glasgow the daughter of the late Jim and Pernie Bailey Bewley. Her husband was the late J. C. Bowles with whom she owned and operated J&H Market in Glasgow for several years. She was also a representative for Elextolux Vacum Sales. She attended both the Methodist and Church of Christ. Survivors include one daughter Patricia C. Smith of Glasgow; one son Mark A. Bowles and wife Teresa of Bowling Green; 4 grandchidren Michael D. Smith of Glasgow, Tiffany Bourne (Judd) of Decatur, IL and Jennifer and Stephanie Bowles of Bowling Green; 4 great grandchildren; 1 brother Hershel E. Bewley of Macon, GA; 3 sisters-in-law Betty Browning of Glasgow, Gladys Lucas of Travelers Rest, SC and Judy Furlong (Wendell) of Burnside, KY and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Wallace 'Wally', Lonnie Leo and Wilbur Howard Bewley. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday November 30, 2009 at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM on Sunday.
